Summary | This project is focused on stochastic mathematical modeling of road traffic. In particular, we want to study various characteristics, such as the efficiency, stability, flow and clustering, of systems designed to model specific aspects of road traffic. As examples of such systems, one can think of a stochastic process of cars entering a highway at a ramp and merging with the traffic, a stream of cars entering a segment of highway with varying (random) speeds, or a traffic stream interrupted by one or more traffic lights. Another direction of research involves investigating what information about the traffic flow can be extracted from (the navigation system of) probe vehicles. |
