Interpretation of measurements for distributed control

Summary This project considers the interpretation of congestion-related measurements, with the objective to monitor and control the underlying network. The focus is primarily on such issues in the context of a Levy-driven network, a queueing network in which Levy traffic is routed along a set of nodes. A complicating factor when performing periodic measurements is the inherent correlation between subsequent measurements, and therefore special attention is paid to techniques that can somehow eliminate these dependencies. Another topic concerns the estimation of the queue’s input traffic characteristics (i.e., in the Levy context, its Laplace exponent) by just observing the workload of the queue that this traffic is fed into, for instance periodically.
