Lex Schrijver received his M.Sc. in mathematics in 1972 from the Free University and defended his
Ph.D. thesis in 1977 at the same university. In 1983 he was appointed professor of mathematics at
Tilburg University. Since 1990 he is professor of discrete mathematics and optimization at the
University of Amsterdam and researcher at the Center for Mathematics and Computer Science
(CWI) in Amsterdam. His research areas are discrete mathematics, optimization, and algorithmics.
