Johan van Leeuwaarden (TU/e and UvT) has been awarded an NWO Vici grant for research into algorithms in the 'cloud'. The Vici grant amounts to 1.5 million euros and will enable him to develop an innovative line of research and set up his own research group in the coming five years.

The cloud consists of a massive amount of computers. In the supermarket we choose our own queue, but who serves us in the cloud? In this project Johan will develop new algorithms that let us find quickly a short queue in enormous data centers.

About the vici grant

Together with Veni and Vidi, Vici is part of the NWO Talent Programme (Before: Talent Scheme). The Vici grant targets highly experienced researchers who have successfully demonstrated the ability to develop their own innovative lines of research, and to act as coaches for young researchers. Vici provides researchers with the opportunity to set up their own research group, often in anticipation of a tenured professorship.
