2nd Online NETWORKS Seminar Talk

The 2nd Online NETWORKS Seminar Talk will take place on Tuesday December 8th, starting at 11:00 hrs. Maris Ozols will be the speaker with a talk entitled 'Doubling down: from classical to quantum designs'. The monthly Seminar Talks are organised by Jop Briët, Stella Kapodistria and Martín Zubeldía.

Abstract

Maris OzolsA combinatorial design is a collection of subsets with a certain structure, the most prominent examples being finite projective and affine planes that provide discrete models for projective and affine geometry. We establish a connection between affine planes and their dual on one hand and quantum designs known as MUBs (mutually unbiased bases) and SIC (symmetric, informationally complete) POVMs on the other hand.

This connection is based on a "doubling down" operation that converts each subset to a pair of quantum states under a unitary basis change.

This talk is based on preliminary results together with Harry Buhrman.
