Second edition continues success of the interactive PhD colloquium
The second edition of the NETWORKS interactive PhD colloquium took place in Amsterdam. A total of 27 participants enjoyed lectures by four speakers on a wide variety of topics. The day was a great success that concluded with a social activity and dinner.

In 2016 the first edition of the Parameterized Algorithms and Computational Experiments Challenge (PACE) was launched. This challenge was supported by NETWORKS.

Bart Jansen and Astrid Pieterse win Best Paper award at MFCS 2016
Bart Jansen (Assistant Professor) and Astrid Pieterse (PhD student) from the Eindhoven University of Technology (Algorithms group) won the Best Paper award at the Symposium on Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science (MFCS) 2016 in Krakow, Poland, with their paper ‘Optimal sparsification for some binary CSPs using low-degree polynomials’. They won 300 euro, sponsored by the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science (EATCS).

NETWORKS publishes 2nd Annual Report
The second year of NETWORKS, since its start in 2014, has again been a prosperous one. The results are to be found in the Annual Report of 2015.

1 Billion euros for Harry Buhrman for Quantum Flagship
The European Commission has proposed to invest one billion euros in a Quantum Flagship, a large-scale European research programme for quantum technology. Within the Quantum Flagship, researchers from various fields will further knowledge on quantum mechanics and bring new applications to the market.

Networks subject of Summer Course for mathematics teachers 2016
The huge importance of networks and the great mathematical aspects related to this subject are emphasized again by the fact that this year ‘Networks’ are the subject of the 70th Summer Course for mathematics teachers, which will be organized by Platform Wiskunde Nederland on 26/27 August and 2/3 September 2016.
