The Korteweg - de Vries Institute of the University of Amsterdam is in the context of NETWORKS looking for an assistant professor (tenure track) in Applied Probability. The candidate will perform research in the area of applied probability, both from a practical or a purely theoretical perspective. Possible topics are stochastic processes, queueing theory, large deviations, fluctuation theory, performance analysis, extreme value theory, and advanced simulation methods, but his/her future research is by no means limited to these. We strive for appointing an excellent candidate, whose own research profile and interests will certainly be considered as an opportunity to open new directions of research. Collaboration with other researchers in The Netherlands or abroad is strongly encouraged.
Besides research, the candidate will have teaching duties both at the bachelor and master level, and will supervise master and/or PhD students.

The initial appointment will be for a period of five years. Based on performance indicators agreed on at the start of the appointment, a tenure track position will lead to a tenured position in a period of maximally 5 years. In the fifth year of the appointment the tenure decision will be taken.
The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel. Based on a full time appointment (38 hours per week) the maximum salary is €5070 gross per month. The Collective Employment Agreement (CAO) of the Dutch Universities is applicable.
